Hello Maryland Honors Colleges!

On Friday, June 13, you are invited to Towson University for the Maryland Collegiate Honors Council (MCHC) annual Summer Faculty Retreat! Members of your institutions will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions on and sharing of best practices regarding Honors education between two-year and four-year institutions across Maryland.  We will also discuss our shared challenges in Maryland Honors education. Cost: FREE for up to six attendees!

Invite: Please invite up to six people from your institution: we suggest four Honors faculty and two Honors administrators (this isn’t for non-Honors administration). The registration fee for these six attendees will be included in your annual MCHC dues. If you wish to bring more than six people (feel free!), there will be a $30 cost per additional person to cover food costs.

Faculty Roundtable: Please reply to just Alison McCartney to nominate a faculty member for the morning roundtable. There is no paper to present; rather, we will collect all names and their disciplines and then select up to six people to give a five-minute overview of their chosen topic regarding Honors education. Alison will contact selected faculty and coordinate the roundtable. The presentations will be followed by Q&A with all attendees. You may nominate faculty who have a topic or course example/assignment they wish to present or an idea or concern that they wished raised/discussed.

Registration: Please send this form to those who you are bringing. Please have them register by Friday, June 6 so that we have a headcount for food and can accommodate food allergies/restrictions. (insert link)

9:30-10:00 – Arrival, check-in, and light breakfast

10-10:15 – Introductions; Greetings from MCHC President

10:15-11:30 – Faculty Roundtable and Q&A: Challenges and Joys of Teaching in Honors

11:30-12:15 – Lunch groups (based on discipline)

12:15-12:30 – Break

12:30-1:15 – Faculty Share and Discuss groups on AI and Honors Education (based on type of institution)

1:15-1:30 – Report out to the whole

1:30-2:15 – Faculty Share and Discuss Groups – TBA – (mixed between 2-year and 4-year institutions)

2:15-2:30 – Report out

2:30-3:00 – Discussion and Planning for MCHC conference and events for 2025-2026

3:00 – Closing and Departure
